| Planting Bermuda Grass |
Growing Bermuda grass is a lot easier than planting it. Bermuda grass loves the sun and the warmth and is meant for summers. It flourishes under the sun and they are used as seasonal lawn grass or pasture grasses. Bermuda grass can be grown fairly easily from good grass seeds. It also needs care and mowing and a few hours of maintenance. It is not a fussy type where you have to be constantly after it so it grows well and you end up having a lawn which looks like a golf course. It needs a moderate level of maintenance.
The texture and the color of the Bermuda grass is much sought after and it is called the south’s grass. There is a perennial variety in the Bermuda grass category but these grow in tropical areas, and even sub tropical or transitional weather conditions. They are used for golf course mainly in these kinds of areas. There are more cold tolerant varieties of the Bermuda grass which have been through scientific modification and hence they can tolerate the cold but even these are used in the transitional areas but not where it is cold.
The best time for planting Bermuda seeds is late spring or early summer after the soil temperature or the ground temperature reaches at least 65 or 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Even then you have to be absolutely sure that there would be no danger of a snow fall or frost because even one single episode of frost or snow fall can destroy the Bermuda grass seeds. Usually it takes at least 80 days with high temperatures to grow and there should be sufficient moisture also. |
