Ornamental Grasses

Ornamental grass not only includes the true grass but also other sub species like sedges, rushes and bamboo.  Ornamental grasses are easy to adapt to the surrounding environment and they have the ability to grow in soils which are poor and much better than most garden plants. They do not require much effort in maintenance and they pretty much maintain themselves.

Ornamental grass varies in height, color, the way it feels or the texture and accordingly their requirement to be watered will also vary. There are some kinds of ornamental grass which add to the fall and winter beauty.  There are many types of ornamental grass like fountain grass, Lyme grass; feathered reed grass and plume grass are some of the fine varieties of ornamental grass.

Of all the ornamental grass that is presently there the fountain grass is considered to be the best. It grows upright and forms a mound. Fountain grass is used to highlight a special plant and is used an s a border around the plant. That is why it is called an ornamental grass. Like an ornament is used to highlight the existing beauty of a person or thing even the various kinds of ornamental grass are used as highlights in a landscaped garden for example. Fountain ornamental grass also gives out flowers but they are seasonal and the colors of flowers change from whitish purple to a coppery purple. They are also used to accentuate the fall and foliage beauty.  Another use for the fountain grass is that they are laid between the regular grass and areas that are naturally dense so that the transition from grassy area to the natural landscape looks even better. This is a landscaping technique which is used by professional landscapers.
